Guocheng “David” He, M.D., Ph.D., is a primary care physician at Townsen Physician Group with 15 years of practice in the Houston area. He is board certified in Nuclear Medicine and in Preventive Medicine / Addiction Medicine, with additional training in internal medicine and family medicine.
Dr. He’s path to primary care began in nuclear medicine, where he worked alongside oncologists and cardiologists caring for patients in the advanced stages of disease. That experience convinced him the greatest opportunity to change a patient’s outcome comes far earlier — through rigorous screening that catches cancer when it is most treatable, and through managing hypertension and diabetes before they cause irreversible damage. Prevention became the center of his practice.
Today he cares for adults managing hypertension, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, weight, thyroid disease, sleep apnea, osteoporosis, and vitamin D deficiency. His background in addiction medicine allows him to treat patients navigating substance use disorders alongside complex chronic and mental health conditions, all within a primary care setting.
Dr. He devotes the core of each visit to education and counseling. He believes in shared decision-making — building strategies with his patients that they can realistically sustain — and wants every patient to leave his office feeling heard, supported, and confident about the next step in their care.
Dr. He earned his medical degree from Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences and his Ph.D. from Baylor University, and completed residency training at Baylor College of Medicine. He speaks English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
